Purple Film Programme – the making of…

Welcome to the Banff Mountain Film Festival, and our first ever exclusively virtual show – the Purple Film Programme!

2020 has been a year of unusual firsts, not least with the introduction of a brand-new colour into our selection of film programmes.

“It seems revolutionary to be working with a new colour after so many years of red and blue, but now I’ve got used to the extra syllable, I’m delighted to introduce this inspirational new programme of films,” says Banff presenter Nell Teasdale.

After building a screen to create a Backyard Theatre in Northamptonshire for our red and blue virtual shows (much to the bewilderment of Banff HQ neighbours – must send wine), new lockdown rules meant that we once again needed to try something different for the Purple Film Programme. Gilbert the adventure dog was very helpful scouting out new filming locations.

Altogether now... awwww.

In another outrageous turn of events, outdoor winter filming wasn’t conducive to the trademark Banff presenter frock, but we can’t wait to be back in our glad rags soon.

(She must have still been a bit chilly!)

And despite a few more technical hitches (think high-vis hikers trying to make a guest appearance in the intros) we’re thrilled to bring you this extra Banff film programme for inspiration and escapism during lockdown. We can’t wait to see you back in theatres later on in 2021, and until then we hope you are enjoying the virtual shows as much as we’ve enjoyed filming them.

That's his enjoyment face - honest!
