Banff Mountain Film Festival - Piano to Zanskar

PIANO TO ZANSKAR

53 minutes

Facing retirement, 65-year-old piano tuner Desmond takes on the most challenging delivery of his career: to transport a 100-year-old upright piano from bustling London to the remote heart of the Indian Himalayas. Helped by a team of local Sherpas, the group are tested to their limits both physically and psychologically, across sheer mountain passes of breath-taking beauty. A symbol of cultural connection and the universal power of music, Piano to Zanskar won the Grand Prize at the 2019 Banff Mountain Film Festival.

Banff Mountain Film Festival - Cholitas

CHOLITAS

53 minutes  (subtitled from Spanish)

Five indigenous Bolivian women set out on a remarkable expedition – to climb 6,962m Aconcagua in the Argentinian Andes, the world’s highest peak outside of Asia. Proudly wearing traditional, colourful skirts, the group of cholitas find human dignity, and harmony with the majesty of Pachamama, or Mother Earth. In captivating and daunting mountain scenery, this is a journey of empowerment, self-discovery and the importance of keeping tradition alive. Winner of the Best Mountain Culture Film award at the 2020 Banff Mountain Film Festival.

Banff Mountain Film Festival - Tempo Movements in Mountains

TEMPO. MOVEMENTS IN MOUNTAINS

4 minutes

Athlete Kyle Richardson moves to the beat of his own rhythm. From coveted ‘fastest known times’ to soul runs that morph into ropeless climbs, Kyle’s free-flowing tempo is mirrored only by his drumming, as he’s a musician at heart. This unique short film, with three live original scores, captures the pulse of Kyle’s movement in mountains.

Banff Mountain Film Festival - Slack Sisters

SLACK SISTERS

3 minutes

Slack Sisters is at once exciting and serene. Walking a highline suspended between two cliff faces might sound daunting, but four adventurers discover sisterhood through this traditionally male-dominated sport, and meditation through the need to stay focused, playful and creative. A short film about physical and mental strength, spirituality and the bonds formed through shared experience.

Please note that some of the films may contain a small amount of coarse language.
